For the first time ever, YouTube will offer a live video stream of the U.S. presidential and vice presidential debates this year. To do this, YouTube has partnered with ABC News, and the debates will stream on ABC News’ YouTube channel and YouTube’s Election Hub.
The Philip DeFranco Show - With more than 2 million subscribers, this channel, dedicated to "Newsytime Stuff and Things," is becoming one of the most influential news shows for those who don't like news. Don't believe me? Discovery networks (yeah, the TV company) bought the company behind DeFranco, Revision3, and used Philly to host the latest edition of Shark Week.
The most impressive thing about DeFranco is how he addresses important, controversial and potentially dry topics, such as gun control, women's rights, and bullying, in between pop culture stories about Honey Boo Boo and weekly Sexytime segments. This seamless integration of good and good for you keeps the Young and The Ritalin tuned in, without lolling them to sleep while discussing many of the most relevant and complex issues of the day.
While most of us are still working for other people, this kid has money pouring in and has started his own companies. Good for him. He says later he has 10 employees—five for the YouTube channel and five for another company he says he doesn't talk about
That's right. $100,000… a month! Not per year… per month. And while DeFranco claims he doesn't make that much himself, he makes it sound like there are several individuals making this kind of money.
DeFranco is just as enchanted with Shark Week as the rest of us. His dad introduced him the pop culture phenomenon at age 14. He’s only missed one year since then, and it’s turned into a family affair: They would sit down, watch Shark Week and, as DeFranco put it, he would “get terrified and have nightmares.”
A charismatic and fast-paced vlogger, DeFranco is known for his celebrity gossip and pop culture commentary—a niche he helped pioneer on YouTube, with more than 900 videos posted since 2006.
The myth of young men and women being notorious non-voters is rapidly being debunked. In fact, 22% of all eligible voters are between 18 and 29 years old. The YouTube Election Hub is yet another step towards attracting young voters to the November election. The YouTube Election Hub will also offer reporting from organizations such as ABC News, The New York Times and celebrity YouTuber Phil DeFranco.
He's been voted Wired magazine's sexiest geek, his YouTube channels regularly draw more viewers than certain broadcast networks and he's close chums with Sharkzilla. He's Internet celeb Phil DeFranco, and he's hosting Shark Week's 25 Best Bites countdown
