The key to boho-chic is to look the opposite of tidy or precise – there are no rules. It is about looking like you have thrown on the pieces as an afterthought of your multitextured, easy-going and earthy personality. Bohemian style seamlessly blends the inspiration of the 1960s flower child with modern day influences. Here a few key elements of boho-chic fashion:
• Delicate and detailed embroidery

• Chunky knits
• Cropped military jackets

Warm, rich colors like black, brown, grey, gold, khaki, and cream, are definitely favorites when it comes to this style. In terms of handbags, boho girls like ones that are soft and drape. “Bucket” shapes and Hobo bags are a popular choice, as are bags with a fringe, tassel, or some other quirky detail. When it comes to hair and makeup, keep it natural. Generally, boho-chic girls like to wear their hair out and keep it long, wavy or curly, rather than straight or short.

Layering different lengths, fits, and textures are a key ingredient to achieving the boho-chic look, particularly the effortless part. When it comes to layering it’s not about seeing how many items you can wear at once, it’s about mixing and adding just the right amount of volume to make your look “complete”. For example, mixing tight with loose, short with long, prints with perhaps more prints, and so on. The main skill involved when it comes to layering/mixing is maintaining balance.

The original Bohemians have an interesting tale. The French bohémien translates as ‘gypsy’ or ‘Roma people.’ They were travelers and mostly refugees from the Bohemia region in central Europe. In modern day, the idea of a gypsy has transformed to a grunge, rock, and idyllic state of a traveler who dresses chic and comfortable, keeping it edgy and classy. It is undoubtedly an acquired taste, but also a superlative one. Famous writer and historian A. N. Wilson deemed the bohemian gypsy attire as “having attached itself to individuals as disparate as Jesus Christ, Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes."
