Kevin is known as the best rapper on the Thunder. He plans to pursue a career as a music producer when his playing days are over.
“A big market is something that doesn’t really concern me too much. It’s cool to think about, it’s good for off-the-court deals. But I’m more of a basketball player. That’s what I want to be known as. And this is the best place for me to play basketball. I’m glad I’m here.”
“I want to be one of the best players in the game.”
“I'll play all five positions if my team needs me to.”
“I want to go down as a winner.”
There's the glasses and backpack Durant wears off the court, which make him look more like a Star Wars nerd than perhaps the second-best player on the planet. There's the heart-tugging hugs he doled out to his mom and family after beating San Antonio for a spot in the finals, the humility he shows when talking about his stupendous game, the sense that he truly embraces playing in one of the league's backwater cities.
He's the anti-superstar superstar.
Larry Bird. Walt Frazier. Michael Jordan. Wilt Chamberlain Hakeem Olajuwon. Julius Erving.
These players have been immortalized through the game of basketball. As long as the NBA exists, these are some of the names that will for always be mentioned and remembered throughout its history.
I'll add another one.
With the possibility of winning his first championship, Durant can do something these five immortals did not accomplish, win a championship at the age of 23.
A basketball player from his earliest days, Durant played for a successful Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) youth basketball team in the PG Jaguars. The Jaguars won multiple national championships with Durant and fellow future blue chip recruits Michael Beasley (Kansas State) and Chris Braswell (Georgetown). Durant wore, and continues to wear, the #35 jersey in honor of his childhood mentor and AAU coach, Charles Craig, who was murdered at age 35.
When he first entered the NBA he signed a $60 million contract with Nike. He actually turned down a bigger contract offer from Adidas because he had worn Nikes since he was a kid.
2007-08 NBA Rookie of the Year
2009-10 NBA Scoring Champion
2010-11 NBA Scoring Champion
Kevin Durant is a fourth year NBA star, currently playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Originally from the D.C./Maryland area, Kevin attended college at the University of Texas at Austin. He was selected 2nd overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2007 NBA Draft.
Durant is most likely working on emoting and memorizing lines. The forward has pulled an MJ by starring in a new family-friendly movie called Thunderstruck...It sounds low-rent, but the trailer proves that expectation wrong. Produced by Warners, it’s got a sort of Air Bud feel to it (except with a human instead of a Golden Retriever Receiver). It’s probably more than a little cheesy, but imagine you’re 10-years-old and dream of playing in the NBA. This movie is going to be magic for kids. Check out the trailer:
